SHANTOU FRAGRANT PEAK is one of our premium oolongs from Shantou in
Guangdong. The leaves of
this special Shantou oolong are long & uncurled, like all Shantou
oolongs, however unlike most, the leaves are green-yellow in colour.
This tea has an amazing fragrance, best likened to the fragrance of a ginger
flower. The leaves are brewed for a shorter period than other oolongs,
because the intensity of flavour will quickly overtake the brew if left too
long. The new season's Fragrant Peak has a decidedly "spicy" nose.

Fujian & Anxi Oolongs
The Anxi area (near Xiamen) of Fujian province is known worldwide for
its oolong teas. It now produces about a quarter of China's total output
which is about 15m kg annually. The area also exports its oolong & tieguanyin
teas to more than 40 countries. With increased production and expanding
foreign markets forecast for oolong teas, Anxi plans to build a tea wholesale
market to boost the local tea trade. This move should also make more kinds of
Fujian oolongs available to foreign buyers, as well as making available many
of the special black and jasmine teas manufactured in other parts of the province.
Black Dragon
Oolong tea is cultivated & consumed in several southern regions of China.
Most notably, Fujian Province & Taiwan. Of the major classes of oolong those
bearing the names, Tie Guan Yin, Shui Xian, Mao Xie, Da Hong Pao, Bao Zhong,
Gao Shan, Dong Ding, are regarded very highly for their aroma, taste & overall
quality. Teas originating from the Anxi region & Wuyi Shan make up most of the best
Fujian production. In the Chinese colour classification of tea, oolong is placed
under Qing Cha or blue tea. The name oolong, Wu Long in Chinese, means black dragon,
a reference to the long & dark twisted leaf of the Fujian teas.
I LOVE OOLONG!
Many people who consider themselves to be tea lovers have never drunk Oolong tea.
Yet Oolong is a category of tea which is capable of providing some of tea's most
enjoyable and exquisite beverages. What is Oolong? The name literally translates as
"Black Dragon" and refers to teas which have been "fermented" (or more accurately,
"oxidised") more than green tea but less than black tea. These teas are sometimes
referred to as "semi-fermented". The best Oolongs are produced in Fujian and
Guangdong Provinces, and in Taiwan. As with all mass market teas, the bulk
of Oolong teas generally available are of poor to average quality.

WUYISHAN TIEGUANYIN is a stunning oolong tea from Wuyishan region which deserves
to be far better known. It's a classy Tieguanyin style, richly roasted and made to
long leaf form. This leaf produces a superb, intensely dark brew
with a smooth and flavoursome finish.

PREMIUM TIEGUANYIN is an oolong a class or two above the Special Grade Tieguanyin

The tea's infusion is a paler colour, and the tea somewhat smoother.
As with the Special Grade TGY, the Premium TGY grade has a wonderful
peach-like fragrance that also exhibits a touch of honey on the nose. It is suggested
that you first try the Special Grade and then compare with the Premium to see what
subtle differences can make to the overall balance and "feel" of a fine oolong.

fragrant 'ball' oolong, being made of a tightly rolled chestnut-green leaf.
Light infusions of the Gold King are bright chestnuts,
holding a moderate "peach" which delicately pervades the tea over many steepings.
Gold King teas carry an unmistakable "honey" undertone which is supported by an
attractive butterscotch palate typical of the best Anxi-region oolongs.

SPECIAL GRADE TIEGUANYIN SPECIAL GRADE TIEGUANYIN is a fine example of a lighter roasted Tieguanyin.
This tea has a wonderful
fragrance of peach and a touch of honey. Although sharing the typical
Taiwanese characteristic of being very aromatic, this tea also delivers on
the palate, & is a fine example of a 'marriage' between the mainland
& Taiwanese styles of tieguanyin oolong.

BIG RED ROBE RESERVE BIG RED ROBE RESERVE is a dark, heavily roasted oolong which is the tea drinker's
equivalent of a
strong "espresso" coffee. Unlike other commonly available heavily roasted oolongs,
the Big Red Robe has a multi-dimensional set of flavours, with a silky smooth finish.
The Reserve is described as a super premium Wuyishan by oolong tasters.
With an incredibly smooth and silky,
