Jingdezhen became known for its fine translucent porcelains, impeccable artwork and above all its Qing Hua or Blue-and-White wares. Jingdezhen porcelain techniques were eventually exported throughout the world, making 'china' synonymous with fine handmade porcelain. The export of these white china-clay wares encouraged the founding of porcelain manufacture in Japan, Germany and England. Throughout Qing China vast quantities of Jingdezhen porcelain was traded under the name of Nanking ware. But much of the twentieth century saw a collapse in the trade of Jingdezhen porcelain, with a steep decline in quality. The revival which has followed over the past twenty years has again made fine Jingdezhen china available to porcelain collectors and tea enthusiasts. The teapot is decorated in underglazed cobalt blue with a pattern depicting a lake & pavilion scene. Gourd Teapot is a light porcelain teapot and very much a novelty piece.
